2019: A Year in Review


Boy, did 2019 fly by!

It was our biggest year yet here at Swank. We worked with more than 15 clients to plan over 20 large events. We made new vendor friends & found some of our favorite clients, our team grew, and lots of memories were made.

Some of our favorite events of the year?

We started off the year with an awards ceremony with Marketplace Logan, which may just be one of the most beautiful events we’ve been a part of. From the stunning centerpieces to the mirror tables, this event was anything but your typical hotel banquet. Elegant, stylish, and eye-catching, we loved everything about this gathering.

PERKS! We’ve been part of this HR conference since its inception in YEAR when only one show was hosted, and has now grown to host 4 cities in 2019, and now 6 cities for the upcoming year! We brought in aerialists, a champagne wall, and fun entertainment for guests, making this unlike any other tradeshow.

Another one of our favorite events? Acacia’s 10-year anniversary celebration on the Spirit of Boston. We sailed from the Boston Harbor and guests enjoyed a delicious email, splendid desserts, a DJ that kept everyone dancing all night, a rooftop deck, and one of the most stunning sunsets we’ve ever seen. We wish every night was as beautiful as that one!

Vestmark celebrated their holiday party just before Christmas, and transformed the hotel ballroom into a Winter Wonderland. Glow Furniture, one of Boston’s best bands, extraordinary design thanks to our vendor friends, all made for one incredible evening.

2019 was a hit, but 2020 is looking like it’ll be even better. We hope we get the chance to work with your team this year, so give us a shout if you need help planning your conference or company gathering.

We had such a fabulous time in Chicago assisting with the PERKS Convention that we had to share the highlights and photos!

The PERKS event was shaped by the amazing venue of 19 East which has an array of open rooms, but feels intimate with beautiful wood floors, sleek modern lighting and black & white color palette. It was a fantastic backdrop to the PERKS convention. 19 East has a “shotgun style” room array which we used to feature room themes:

  • Health benefits were in an orange-colored “Healthy Room”;
  • A green “Wealthy Room” appropriately had financial exhibitors; and
  • A yellow “Happy Room” had wellness vendors…and champagne, of course!

Color is an important factor when planning as we highlighted in our post Use of Color at your Event – and this venue was a fantastic example of using it! It was subtle, but effective to make each space distinctive.  

In the green “Wealthy” room, one of the exhibitors had a fun “Money grab” booth that attendees enjoyed. The Convention also featured a financial wellness workshop & an empathy in the workplace seminar that was highly attended. Another one of the popular seminars was on “Make-up for the working woman” which was incredibly informative. All kinds of great “perks” of being an Event Planner – you get to learn what vendors are offering attendees as well!

PERKS prides itself on being “Not your average trade show” with unique giveaways or experiences for attendees from all exhibitors plus fun added entertainment such as the  stilt-walker, champagne table, open bar, free food, swag bag and a DJ!

Since Swank Events helped with the PERKS convention in Boston this past May, we already knew the PERKS team, knew some of their loyal exhibitors and the overall goals for the convention, which helped get this event put together quickly.

We feel an important part of the post-event process is conducting event debriefs with our clients, where we share thoughts and ideas to improve on for next year – which we implemented some of those ideas from Boston into the Chicago convention. For Swank, this builds our relationship with any client and helps us feel like an extension of their team.

We’re really looking forward to PERKS coming back to Boston at the Hynes Convention Center on May 2nd 2019! PERKS will also be heading to New York in April and LA  in September 2019.

Things to Consider When Planning an Event Remotely

Swank Events is so excited to be partnering with PERKS again for their Chicago event!

This event is a bit different than the one Swank helped with in Boston earlier this year for several reasons, but the biggest being that we are working on it remotely from Boston.

When planning an event remotely, you don’t have your typical go to vendors who you know, love and trust! Therefore, you really need to scrutinize vendor recommendations and their online reputations. For the PERKS Chicago event, there were specific vendors we needed to book; video, photo, lighting, balloons, entertainment and DJ. Our venue helped with some connections, but we needed to do our homework as well. We spent countless hours researching Chicago vendors, perusing online reviews, speaking to them and comparing costs, services, pros and cons and coming to a decision after speaking to some previous clients. After chatting with several happy customers who can speak to a vendor’s service or performance helps us feel confident we’re booking a reputable company that will deliver on their promises. All of the vendors are going to be crucial in creating the convention atmosphere for both the vendors and attendees – and we’re really excitedto see this all come together!

PERKS is “….a national convention series organized to showcase the best in unique and innovative services for your workplace.” The Chicago stop will have over 40 vendors exhibiting and we’re expecting 450 people to attend. There are also going to be classes offered during the convention including employee financial wellness, empathy in the workplace and makeup tips for the working woman. We’re also excited about a fantastic charity opportunity – Paint Soles for Souls – where attendees have the chance to decoratea pair of Toms shoes which will then be donated to children in need.

It’s going to be an amazing event and we’re looking forward to sharing more photos from Chicago!

HR Perks Convention

With today’s tight and competitive labor markets, some companies are getting creative to attract, retain and promote their employee well-being by offering programs related to wellness or having a great office environment. A convention designed to specifically help companies gather ideas in this area made a stop in Boston recently and Swank Events was please to help plan and execute this wonderful event at the Hynes Convention Center on May 9th. While it was our first convention engagement – it went very smoothly and had a great feel to it!

According to their website, Perks is the “…only convention in the nation dedicated to service and amenity discovery for your workplace.” With over 80 vendors and 800 attendees – it was a huge success with unique, local businesses out to show off their great ideas! A big hit at the convention was Bike Bus – which is a mobile spin gym that can come to your office!

In addition to the exhibitors handing out loads of items for attendees to take home, there were several roundtable meetings with additional goodies and lunch options!

It was wonderful working with the Perks team to make an impact on all the attendees as well as the vendors! Swank Events Boston was so pleased to be a part of this amazing event and look forward to Perks coming back to Boston next year!
